Hope Square

Friends and supporters of the Clark County Youth Shelter gathered on August 27 to celebrate the groundbreaking of “Hope Square”, a patio in front of the building made up of bricks purchased in honor of or in memory of loved ones.

The idea of the honorarium/memorial square was inspired by Kyle Vissing, a former CCYS resident who returned to the shelter to erect a flag pole with landscaping as an Eagle Scout project.  Vissing was killed in an automobile accident in 2006, shortly after his project at the shelter was completed.     “Hope Square is meant to symbolize the hope that CCYS strives to provide the residents during their stay in the shelter,” said Amy Schneidau, Assistant Director. “We encourage anyone with a message of support, hope, or love for youth to participate in this special project.”

Although Vissing’s stay in the shelter was short, he acknowledged the services he received by choosing the shelter as the site for his Eagle Scout project. To recognize his “giving back” to the shelter and his untimely death, the CCYS staff purchased the first brick in memory of Kyle.

Bricks are still available for purchase at $75 per brick with three lines of text. For more information or to request an order form, please contact the shelter at 284-5229.

YOU'RE INVITED...

to the 6th Annual Clark County Youth Shelter
Holiday 'Celebrity' Waiter Dinner

6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009

Jeffersonville Optimist Club

This event is one of two major fundraisers for the shelter each year that supports not only the Residential Program, but also important auxiliary programs such as Family Education and Support and Safe Place.  The event features a full buffet dinner -- complete with a wide variety of homemade desserts, a live and silent auction with items ranging from homemade gifts to local specialties to Southwest Airline Tickets, and live entertainment.  To top that off, each table is entertained and "waited" by local "celebrities" or people who find themselves entertaining and want to prove it to the rest of us!  The idea is to have a great time, witness some real talent and tip the waiters who in turn donate everything to benefit the Clark County Youth Shelter!

Tickets for the event are $30.  Donations of live and silent auction items are being sought.  To find out how to attend the event or donate an item for auction, please contact Amy Schneidau at 284-5229 by Dec. 7, 2009.

Hope to see you there!
